Office 365 and Microsoft 365 no longer include Microsoft Teams

Office 365 and Microsoft 365 no longer include Microsoft Teams

It will probably not have escaped your notice that the European Commission has announced the launch of an investigation into the bundling of Microsoft Teams into the Office 365 and Microsoft 365 suites. In the opinion of the European Commission, this is unfair competition from Microsoft towards other software vendors. Microsoft subsequently announced to adjust its offerings for customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

This change means that Microsoft will stop selling the existing Office 365 E1/E3/E5 and Microsoft 365 E3/E5 subscriptions. Instead Microsoft is offering a new Office 365 or Microsoft 365 subscription without Microsoft Teams and Teams must be purchased separately. By the way, this only applies to new subscriptions. If you already have an Office 365 or Microsoft 365 subscription, then you can continue to use this subscription which still includes Microsoft Teams. As long as you don't create a new subscription, nothing will change for you. Of course, if you want to, you can always choose to switch to the new Office365/Microsoft365 versions voluntarily.

For other Microsoft suites, the situation is slightly different. Within the suites Office 365 F1, Microsoft 365 F1/F3 and Microsoft 365 Business Basic/Standard/Premium, the versions with Microsoft Teams will remain available, but customers can also opt for version without Teams at a price reduction. The Academic and Non-Profit license licensing offerings are not affected by this, these will remain as they are today.
