Can I just turn Microsoft 365 Copilot "on"?
Developments using Artificial Intelligence (AI) are moving at lightning speed. Perhaps you are already actively using it yourself in the form of ChatGPT. Of course, Microsoft is also fully committed to this, so most likely you have heard that Microsoft recently proudly introduced 'Microsoft 365 Copilot'.
But what is Copilot? It is an advanced, AI-driven tool designed to support businesses and developers in a variety of tasks. It is based on advanced machine learning technologies, including natural language processing and predictive analytics. Copilot integrates seamlessly with various Microsoft products and services, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-BI and Teams. Copilot can facilitate or even automate tasks such as coding, data analysis, documentation and even customer service tasks.
Wow! Turn on Copilot immediately and everything gets easier so? Unfortunately, as with many new developments, there are points to seriously consider.
Microsoft strongly recommends having a solid governance structure in place before implementing Copilot. This ensures that the organization can use the tool responsibly and effectively, minimizing potential risks and maximizing benefits.
Governance measures might include, for example, establishing guidelines for how and when to use Copilot, training employees on the capabilities and limitations of the tool, and establishing controls to prevent misuse or unintended consequences. But also consider having the data structure, permissions and allowed actions in order. After all, Copilot works with the existing technical frameworks and those frameworks define you.
In summary, Microsoft Copilot is a powerful AI tool that, if properly managed and governed, can bring significant efficiency and productivity gains to organizations. However, an emphasis on governance is critical to ensure that the use of Copilot is in line with the organization's ethical standards, security protocols and regulatory requirements.
Of course, this can be challenging, but Open Line is happy to help. Contact us to take this preliminary but indispensable step in a thorough way! And mark April 18 in your calendar.
That's when we will host our customer day at which the theme of AI will be emphatic.
